Sustainability with Soul – Why It Matters and What We Look For
At Nu.Liv, sustainability is more than just a trend. It's a commitment to doing things differently – with care, respect, and long-term thinking. When we source furniture from Indonesia, we look beyond beauty and design. We ask: Where does the wood come from? Who made this? How was it treated – and who benefits from its sale?
Natural, Responsible, Certified
Indonesia is home to some of the most skilled artisans in the world – and some of the most precious natural resources. Teak, rattan, and other local woods are beloved for their durability and warmth. But we believe that these materials should only be used when their harvest benefits both the environment and the communities that depend on it.
That’s why we only work with partners who hold official SVLK certification – the Indonesian government's legally binding timber verification system.
SVLK stands for Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu, or Timber Legality Assurance System. It guarantees that the wood:
-
was harvested legally from approved forests,
-
comes from sustainably managed sources,
-
and was processed in a way that protects workers’ rights and local ecosystems.
The SVLK label isn’t just a piece of paper – it’s part of a national effort to combat illegal logging, support ethical forestry, and promote traceability in global timber trade. For us, it’s a minimum requirement.
Sustainability Meets Affordability
Sustainable furniture doesn’t have to be unaffordable. By working directly with small producers, reducing middlemen, and keeping our business lean, we’re able to offer high-quality, certified pieces at fair prices – without cutting corners.
Every item you see in our collection carries not just craftsmanship, but also a quiet promise:
That beauty can be honest. That nature can be respected. And that mindful living doesn’t have to mean paying a premium.
A Different Kind of Luxury
At Nu.Liv, we think luxury is not about gold accents or fast trends – it’s about materials that breathe, textures that age gracefully, and pieces that carry meaning. Sustainability is part of that story. It's how we honour the places we source from and the people we serve.
Because your home deserves more than just style – it deserves soul.
